DEI-Themed Lessons

These DEI-Themed Lessons are a culmination of resources that we have developed over the years to support caregivers, educators, and children in digging deeper into learning and conversation.

Every themed lesson includes the targeted social justice standard, a summary to introduce and explain the theme, prompts to spur reflection and conversation, a booklist of diverse children’s books, a selected activity to reinforce lessons learned, and curated resources for further exploration.

This resource includes 35 themed lessons and follows eight guiding principles:

1. Curiosity, not completeness, is the goal.
2. Starting with the basics doesn't mean you have to shortchange the truth.
3. Delight in the joy of discovery.
4. Use multimedia.
5. “Be examples of truth and honesty for your children”
6. Connect the content to your children.
7. Connect the content to today.
8. Connect to the story of hope and help.
