Born in St. Louis to parents from Velika Kludusa, Parents arrived separately in the city and met and married in St. Louis, During the war father was a solider in the Bosnian army who was wounded, Growing up did not know about the war as it was not spoken about, Grew up in a household were Bosnian was the language and firstly learned Bosnia, Only began to learn English in school and slowly developed those skills, Experienced discrimination in public when having to translate for her parents, Would receive comments from people such go back to your own country and to speak English, Has a sense that being Bosnian has given her an extra set of skills with a drive to succeed, Parents never finished schools and were forced to abandon plans which puts an extra pressure on her to succeed in school, Visits family in Bosnia and who live in the Velika Kludusa area, Stays at the home of grandparents who live in a farm, Enjoys playing with the farm animals and feeding the cows with grandfather, Bosnian heritage is very much worn with pride and if someone asks about identity identifies as Bosnian, United States is a melting pot and feels that due to this effect people are becoming more accepting of Bosnians and all cultures, Bosnian cuisine is quite tasteful and shares the food with American friends who enjoy it, Enjoys pita with cheese and other things that do not have meat as she is a vegetarian, This choice was difficult for her parents to understand as meat is very much part of the Bosnian diet.
