Born in the town of Stari Majan in the former Yugoslavia, After his service in the JNA decided to move to the United States, Came to St. Louis due to a friend living there, Describes leaving Yugoslavia due to the lack of jobs and opportunities, Married his wife in 1981 who joined him in St. Louis, Worked as a truck driver until buying the space that would become his restaurant in 1998, While in St. Louis witnessed the outbreak of the war in Bosnia via CNN and other news outlets, Experienced the tough reality of not being able to contact family back in Bosnia including wives parents, As refugees began to come to St. Louis due to war did his best to help as much as he could, Considers himself and his family as Bosnians and still visits Bosnia regularly, As the conflict began could not understand why everyone was fighting, Looking back at the conflict now thinks it is a religious war, Wants future generations of Bosnians to maintain the Bosnian culture and work hard to achieve success in St. Louis
