Description
He was born in Tuzla in 1998 and has no memories of Bosnia before his family emigrate to America in April of 2001. His family (Mother, Father, two older brothers, and paternal Grandmother) settled in Richmond, VA. He grew up in the Nottingham Green apartment complex which was made up of mostly Bosnians. He recalls having a lot of Bosnian friends growing up, but also making friends with American children at school. His fathers family is from Vlasenica, and his mothers side is from the village of Glagova. He states that his family had to flee pretty early on in the conflict and ended up in Srebrenica. His father escaped the Srebrenica Genocide via the woods, but his Grandfather and fathers nephew were murdered in Srebrenica. His father does not like to talk about the war and has never returned to Bosnia. His mother returned several times while her parents were still living. His father is a carpenter and his mother worked in grocery stores. They received help from an American family early on. Bosnian is spoken in the home as his father does not know much English. Considers himself American.
