Abstract
The problems, benefits, and feasibility of quality circles in hospital management was the focus of this study on a sample of two shared laboratories in a metropolitan hospital in the midwest. The historical background of quality circles was examined, as well as the integration of quality circles into the American work system. The mechanics of the quality circle process were defined and related specifically to problem areas experienced by other healthcare institutions. Benefits and rewards were discussed. A case study was described in detail to illustrate a direct relationship between preparation, support, and adherence to the quality circle process and the results experienced. An analysis and recommendation followed.
