Description

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie is a probe into the character of the fiercely independent and unorthodox Jean Brodie, teacher at Marcia Blaine School for Girls in Edinburgh of the 1930's. She offers her "set" individuality, self-confidence and grace in a world that is essentially awkward. But Miss Brodie's social ideal of the creme de la creme, her religious sense of the elect, and her attempt to run the lives of her students breed antagonism. Thus she ultimately becomes a victim of her vaunted "prime". The drama forces a reexamination of circumstances long since taken for granted; a confrontation with the protagonist's terms of existence.
