The IPEI project puts an emphasis on family intervention, which I find to be extremely important because, from personal experience, I realized how important it is to involve families in therapy. When I was in speech therapy in middle school for tongue thrust, I would not have made the progress I did without my family’s assistance. The IPEI project effectively prepares me to be successful in my future career because there are numerous opportunities to work on inter-professional skills when working on group projects or participating in group discussions between speech pathologists and teachers of the deaf. It helps students realize what each field can bring to the table. We have professional development opportunities in which we can travel to different conventions and also present research we have done, exposing us to new and relevant information from other professionals in our field.
