I fell in love with children who are deaf and hard of hearing through my first substitute job at Heuser Hearing Language Academy in Louisville, Kentucky back in 2016. The principal and teachers kept requesting me as their substitute after my first time there. I loved working and getting to know the children and wonderful staff. The next year a teacher assistant position opened up. I immediately jumped in to apply and got hired. I worked as an assistant for two years, until a former graduate from Fontbonne at Heuser persuaded me to look into the program here in St. Louis. She only had wonderful things to say about the deaf education program here, so I applied for both the program and the grant for interprofessional preparation of early interventionists. I was admitted and became a scholar of the federal funded grant. I would not have wanted to be any other place! I have loved all my instructors and professors. My adviser, Jenna Voss, has been a great mentor and has taught me so much about families and children who are deaf and hard of hearing. I look forward to graduate in May and apply my knowledge back in my home city of Louisville.
