Abstract
New products are recognized as the lifeblood of just about every business. The story of most successful products is a history of their passing through certain recognizable stages.
On the following pages one industry, the ethical pharmaceutical industry, will be the focus of the thesis. Historically, the most important characteristics of any prescription drug product were its efficacy and safety. In the 1980's, a third equally important dimension has been added, the economic value of each product.
