Abstract
In the past, American businesses have dominated world markets with their products and services. This is no longer the case. Japan has emerged as a contender to surpass the Americans. Why has this happened? One reason is Total Quality Management and the Japanese practice it. W. Edwards Demining, to some, the Father of TQM, took his teachings to Japan. To this day, those principles are part of everyday working.
The U.S. Government started noticing the poor quality in defense products. Their concern has generated a push for quality products. They have requested their contractors to do the same. Southwest Mobile Systems Corporation; a Government Defense Contractor, has answered the Government's call to produce and deliver quality products.
Although still in its infantile stage and facing many problems with management acceptance, Southwest is hoping to regain their good reputation for building quality products.
