Abstract

This paper studies the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act and its impact on the economies of the State of Missouri and Lincoln County, Missouri. This Act was passed in 1991 and is the latest in a long line of highway funding bills. These bills have provided the funds to build and maintain the nation's highways.

I would like to propose by my thesis that the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act will have a positive impact on these economies and will help move the construction industry out of its current recession. This Act will be especially beneficial to the state and county economies because it allows much discretion on the part of these governments in how they use the funds.

These funds will allow the states and counties to rebuild their transportation infrastructure while at the same time provide jobs and business for local industry. This will have a positive trickle down effect throughout their economies.
