Description
Sr. Jane entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1951 and taught at Fontbonne College as a member of the history department before assuming the presidency in 1972. During her time as president, Hassett made great progress on Fontbonne’s fragile financial position and was especially successful in fundraising.
Following her period as president of Fontbonne, Sr. Jane served as the executive director of the Sisters’ Energy Conservation Program funded by the Conrad Hilton Foundation and later as the administrator of Our Lady of Life Apartments in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1997, she returned to Fontbonne University in the Advancement Office as a records researcher, writer, and archivist. She retired from that position in 2012 and was honored with the Founders Award in 2012.
Hassett is the author of two books on Fontbonne University history: As Strong as the Granite and A Decade of Growth: 1999-2009.
