Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to work with children. I always loved school and to this day, I still remember my teachers that made the greatest impact on my life. These teachers played such an important part in making me who I am today and I wanted to be able to make the same impact on the students in my classroom. One day, my friends mom asked if I would like to attend her sons speech session with her. At the time, he was receiving services in Fontbonne’s clinic. As I observed the session, I was blown away by the strategies they were using and how effective they were. I instantly knew that I wanted to attend Fontbonne University! Initially I was drawn towards speech language pathology because that was what I had observed while visiting Fontbonne. However, a couple years later, I attended an open house at Fontbonne for Communication Disorders. As I listened to the teacher of the deaf speak and as I heard her passion for the field, I finally knew exactly what it was that I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing.
