Description

Born in Neuberg, Germany to parents feeling from the conflict in the Krajina region, Earliest memories are of St. Louis and family restaurant that catered to Bosnians living in the city, Started school without knowing English, Learned English from cartoons and if she spoke Bosnian while at school would get punished by teachers and told to stop by peers, Growing up parents always wanted to keep their culture and language as a part of their family, While visiting Bosnia the first same there was still a lot of destroyed buildings and vehicles around eh country, Identifies as Bosnian American as Bosnia is a huge part of her life but she lives in the United States, Going back to Bosnia there is still a lot of tension with the older generation and most neighbors are still separated based on ethnic lines but the younger generation tends to be friends with everyone which she found strange, Being from Bosnia and being bilingual has helped her in academia and everyday life, Thinks that the conflict that occurred in Bosnia should be talked about in schools and more people should learn about the genocide that occurred, Wants future generations o be aware of what happened and to careful choose who their friends are and who they place their trust in
