Abstract

The thesis presented will examine the area of Quality Assurance in Health Care Administration of Physicians Services. Quality is an important topic for any organization today. Currently, medical environment is shrouded with concerns about costs, access, and quality. Taken together, they provide a rationale for learning quality assurance and cost containment and applying it to Health Care Administration. This study is based on the Deming's principles on quality which emphasize establishment of standards, evaluation of these standards and implementation adhering to the established standards.

The thesis advocates the need for total commitment to quality by the organization, developing a Quality Assurance Program in adherence to the goals and strategies of the organization, setting up proper direction and leadership. Organizing an effective Quality Assurance Program involves several steps. In an actual practice setting, the Quality Assurance study is conducted in different stages such as selection of topic, initial assessment, improvement, planning, implementation and reassessment.

The goal of every health care organization today, is to provide the highest possible quality of care by integrating all medical and administrative functions and to reduce cost. In meeting this challenge, Quality Assurance and Risk Management go hand-in-hand in . providing the quality care efficiently, safely, and cost effectively.

Quality Assurance ensures better care at lower costs. This is possible because of fewer mistakes and reduction of re-work.

I have proposed by my thesis the necessary steps and guidelines which need to be implemented in the Health Care Administration of Physicians Services through Quality Assurance Programs. In doing so, I am presenting through a thorough review, the methodology for the development and implementation of an effective Quality Assurance Program.
